Holy Moly! We're off to Everest!

first ramble, itinerary and just giving page

So.....yip, we're definitely going, we're going to Everest, we're going to climb up Everest.....actual Everest....well a part of it anyway, 17,500 ft to be exact. I don't think I'd actually got my head around that until today.

If you don't know us, or only know one of us - I'm Jo and my husband is Deryl - we're from Northern Ireland and as you have probably guessed by now, we're off to Nepal at the end of April to trek the whole way up to Everest Base Camp. We've never done anything like this before, we're total novices and we're just going to have to learn as we go!

We've booked our trip through Outfitter Nepal and even though we booked it ages ago - it's coming around REAL fast. We're really only starting to buy up the gear we need, research all the other fab blogs out there with hints and tips and start to actually get our heads around this challenge.

But the one thing we have managed to do is set up a just giving page to raise some money for charity and the money has been flooding in - everyone is so generous and giving. I just can't believe it.

We have funded the entire trip ourselves, so all the money raised through just giving is going to the Alzheimer's Society. If you want to donate, you can find our page at https://www.justgiving.com/deryl-and-joey-do-everest

So if you're a bit like us, and have no idea what this trip will entail - I've pasted our itinerary below. It gives a good overview of where we'll be and at what stage.

Day 01 : Arrive in Kathmandu Airport and transfer to hotel - overnight at hotel.
Day 02 : Full day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu valley
Day 03 : Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2886m) and Trek to Phakding (2610m)
Day 04 : Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440 m.)
Day 05 : Rest day at Namche Bazaar (3440 m) for acclimatization
Day 06 : Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche (3867 m.)
Day 07 : Trek from Tyangboche to Dingboche (4260 m.)
Day 08 : Rest day at Dingboche (4260 m.) for acclimatization
Day 09 : Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (4930 m.)
Day 10 : Trek from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep (m.)
Day 11 : Trek from Gorakshep to Kala Patthar (5545m.) and trek to Pheriche (4243m.)
Day 12 : Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3441 meters)
Day 13 : Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2886 m.)
Day 14 : Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu.
Day 15 : Leisure day in Kathmandu.
Day 16 : Home time!

I've been told by more than one person that this is going to be the trip of a lifetime. From the culture to the scenery I reckon it's going to be a trip we won't forget in a hurry!

We're hoping to populate this page in the lead up to our trip and during it - depending on the wifi connections and availability of electricity. That should keep our Mum's happy at least....eh myrtle and phyllis!? Until then, we might stick up a few posts about our preparations and musings. Who knows we might not bother putting anything up, but that's the plan at this stage.

Until then........
